Going Back to School

Is your little one having a hard time with the idea of going back to school? Some children (and mommies and daddies too!) become a little sad knowing that they won't be able to spend their days at home like they did in this summer. If this sounds familiar, enjoy listening to this book. It's about a little raccoon who has the same worries.

Welcome!!!

Parents, Welcome to FIRST GRADE! I am so excited to start the school year! It's going to be a great year full of fun and learning. I am looking forward to meeting you all at Sneak-a-Peek on August 14th from 5:00-6:00p.m.. If you are new to Manchester Park, make sure you stop by the office first to meet Mrs. DeGroot! Parent Night will be on August 21st from 6:30-7:30. It is divided into two sections so you can come to either time that works for you (6:30 or 7:00). There you will discover all of the wonderful components of our classroom and all of the exciting things we will be learning this year. Enjoy your last few days of summer- see you on the 14th! :) Mrs. Niebuhr (NEE-BER)

Homework Expectations

Here are my expectations for nightly homework...

Homework

  • 5-7 minutes on sight words, Math Wizards or a combination

  • 5 minutes on spelling practice

  • 10 minutes on nightly reading book OR guided reading baggie (if this applies to your child)

  • Additional reading is always great but not required.

NOTE – If you are spending a lot longer than 20 minutes on homework a night, please let me know.  We work REALLY hard at school, so first graders should not be overwhelmed with homework.
